Do You Want to Know About World’s Most Liveable City For 2026? "What position does Pakistan's city, Karachi, hold?"

Web News: Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, has been crowned the world's most liveable city for the second consecutive year in the newly released Global Liveability Index 2026. The annual report, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), shows Copenhagen successfully fending off Austria's capital, Vienna, which previously held a three-year streak at the top spot from 2022 to 2024.

The index evaluates living conditions across 173 cities globally, assessing them on 30 qualitative and quantitative indicators across five core categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

Copenhagen dominated the 2026 rankings by securing "perfect" scores of 100 in stability, education, and infrastructure. Vienna secured the second spot, while Australia firmly established its presence in the upper tier with Melbourne and Sydney taking the third and fourth positions.

For Pakistan, the report brings familiar bad news. Karachi remains the only Pakistani metropolis featured on the index and has retained its dismal ranking from last year, placing 170th out of 173 cities.

The southern port city continues to struggle with severe urban challenges, including infrastructure deficits, security concerns, and lagging healthcare systems. Karachi only outranked three other global cities at the absolute bottom of the list:

171: Dhaka (Bangladesh), 172: Tripoli (Libya) ,173: Damascus (Syria)

The EIU report highlights that while global improvements in healthcare and education were visible this year, these gains were heavily offset by a decline in stability scores due to rising geopolitical tensions.

The impacts of regional conflicts—most notably involving Iran, the United States, and Israel—dragged down the rankings of several Middle Eastern hubs. Iran's capital, Tehran, dropped significantly to 164th place.

The sharpest declines in the 2026 report were recorded in the Gulf region. Oman's capital, Muscat, plummeted 14 places to land at 123rd, while Kuwait City dropped 12 positions to rank 105th globally.
